Three Wheeled Buggies
Three-wheeled buggies are ideal for walking around the neighborhood or running. Their compact design makes them easy to maneuver even in tight spaces.
For a smooth ride, go for a pram that has air-filled tyres. Also, look for models with 360deg front swivel wheels. However, they are susceptible to punctures, so make sure you are prepared with a repair kit.
Sturdy frame
The latest figures have been released showing that the three-wheeled buggy - that noughties symbol of more money than sanity - is in steep decline. Four-wheelers are replacing them, and are more flexible and simple to drive and look fashionable.
The general rule is that the bigger the wheels, the easier it will be for your buggy to deal with bumpy ground and rough pavements. The larger wheels both rear and front enable you to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or in difficult terrain.
MFM reviewer Kath tested the buggy with a newborn and 3 year old and found it coped well with grass, cobbles rough roads, dirt tracks and kerbs. Kath wrote "it feels sturdy to push and is very stable when you're on rough terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable and require occasional pumping) have suspension built-in that was very comfortable for my kids.
The shape and size of the seat is another thing to consider. The seat should be large enough for your child to be comfortable and allow them to lie down. 3 wheel buggy -wheel buggies have the option of reclining completely, while others will only allow the parent to be facing one.
The Roma Atlas is a great alternative for off-road or walking in muddy areas. It can be used as a single from birth and then adapts to take two children when your family expands. It is suitable for infants and toddlers from age 4 and comes with a bumper bar, raincover, a better 5-point harness and a spacious padded seat unit. The storage options are excellent as well, with a large basket, zip pockets inside the hood and an easy-to-access pouch on the back of the seat unit.
Larger wheels
Larger wheels will give your buggy more stability when driving over rough terrain. This is perfect for buggies that are off-road. In addition, they allow you to maneuver the pushchair through narrow spaces. Some three-wheeled buggies come with wheels that swivel on the front, which help you navigate tight corners. Others are designed to run and have fixed wheels that lock for increased speed and stability. This can also help if you bump into the roots of a tree or stray road, as the front wheel will rise up slightly to prevent you from hitting it.
A lot of 3 wheeled pushchairs come with air-filled tyres that allow them to navigate a wide range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They are also lighter. However, they're susceptible to punctures and you'll need a repair kit, spare tube and pump handy.
Our top 3-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. These buggies, according to MFM's Kath, have larger wheels which she claims "perform well on grass, gravel roads and market town cobbles" and are able to go up or down kerbs. They also come with a suspension system that according to her "smoothes out bumps with great efficiency".
Buggies with larger wheels may be quite wide and can be difficult to fit into narrow spaces. This could be problematic if you intend to use it for jogging or have to squeeze through doorways that are narrow while on the move. Fortunately, many models come with small folding options that allow you to remove the front wheels to create more compact storage.
Easy to Manoeuvre
One of the major advantages of a three-wheel buggy is that it can be much more maneuverable particularly with a child on the way. They are designed so that the front wheels can rotate at a moment's notice, and are easy to navigate, making them ideal for terrains that are difficult, such as parks, cobblestones, bumpy roads, and dirt tracks.
MFM reviewer Kath tried the 3-wheeler with her toddler, and she reported: "The Terrain is a joy to maneuver on rough terrain. The swivel wheel in the front was particularly useful." I was also awed by the way it handled kerbs when using the hand-operated break. It was very stable for descending or on uneven terrain."
The only drawback of this incredible maneuverability is that the three wheel buggy's larger wheels sometimes mean that it will struggle in tight spaces, something to keep in mind especially if you live in a city region. If this is the case, a 4-wheeled buggy may be the better option for you.

Kath who was our MFM reviewer, also appreciated the spaciousness of this buggy. There's a easily accessible, large basket that is surprisingly spacious for a buggy that's this big. Additionally, there's an excellent pouch on the back unit, as well as two smaller mesh pockets beneath the hood where you can keep your phone and keys.
