Seats
The majority of 3 wheel double buggies begin life as single pushchairs. However, some models can be converted to accommodate a second seat or carrycot by converting adapters (these are typically more common in tandem buggies). The seats have to face toward the forward direction and there isn't room to store bags of groceries under the seat. You will need a sidepack.
If you like to take off-road trips then the Mountain Buggy Duet is a excellent option. It's a side-by-side with the slimmest footprint of any double buggy on the market. This allows it to pass through doors with narrow openings and on public transport and also allows you to go up and down kerbs without much trouble. The seats come with multi-position recline and UPF 50+ sunshades while the canopy can be adjusted to keep the sun out of your child's eyes. The iCandy Orange double buggies are one of the most popular on the market. This is due to their outstanding comfort. It's an all-terrain pushchair with a soft suspension to make smooth work of bumpy surfaces. It can accommodate a massive 30 seating configurations, and includes an integrated ride-on board that can be used for older children who prefer walking and a 'cinema seating' mode that raises the back seat to improve visibility.
Alternatively, the phil&teds dot is a brilliant single buggy from the beginning that can then easily adapt to take 2 (or 3!) in a variety of configurations. This is particularly helpful when you have a child in a car seat since the frame can be equipped with a wedgie to allow for optimal position, and also car seat adapters for many brands.
Suspension
The suspension of a double 3-wheel buggy will determine how easy you and your child/children are able to push it. A smooth ride is vital as babies can feel every bump on the road, especially if it's in rough terrain such as grass or unpaved paths. Certain models also have locking front wheels to assist in maneuvering and navigating obstacles such as curbs.
Certain models come with air-filled tyres that are great for all-terrain riding, but they are susceptible to punctures. Make sure you keep an extra set of tyres inside the trunk. Others have foam or gel tyres that are designed to withstand bumps and can be less prone to punctures, however, you might find them a little stiff and uncomfortable on your child's back when you choose to jog.
